KARACHI: The government has set up a fund for protection and conservation of wildlife in the province.

According to a notification dated Nov 12, the Sindh Wildlife Conservation and Development Fund is set up under the Sindh Wildlife Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management Act 2020. Its financial affairs will be “regulated” by the council, already notified under the law.

“No amount shall be obtained from the fund from the state treasury. All deposited into the fund must comply with Section 7 of the Act 2020, as well as with sub-rule 5 of Rule 7, sub rule 6 of Rule 75 of the Rules 2022. The principal amount in the fund shall remain untouched with only the accrued interest shall be utilized,” it says.

The notification bars purchase of any road-borne vehicle from the fund. For utilisation of the funds’ amount for wildlife needs, a field officer has to submit an operational plan for approval to the council.
