Saqib slams decisive goal

LAHORE, April 9: A decisive goal by Saqib Khan Khakwani and a half-goal handicap helped United Solutions to win Sardar Abdul Samad Polo Cup beating Master Paints 7 1/2-6 in the final on Sunday. The handicap helped the winners to lead the first chukker 3 1/2-3. Sufi Mohammad Aamir, Ashfaq and Agha Murtaza Ali Khan scored one goal each, one after the other for the losers to gain 3- 1/2 lead.

However, Saqib, Ali Malik and three-goal Raja Samiullah struck one goal each to take the lead.

The solitary goal in the second chukker by Samiullah, his second, helped United Solutions take 4 1/2- 3 lead.

The winners were 6 1/2-5 ahead in third chukker as both teams scored two each.

Samiullah and Amir Shahid scored for the winners while Ashfaq and Sufi Mohammad Haris for the losers.

In the fourth chukker, Murtaza banged home his second goal for the losers to reduce the margin 6 1/2-6 before Saqib Khan scored a field goal after a long chase to seal victory.
