KARACHI, April 8: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that he is mulling the idea of earmarking separate plots at various places for people from interior Sindh so that they could have lands in the city legally. According to a handout, the chief minister stated this while talking to newsmen at Dhabeji Industrial Area during his visit on Saturday to inspect an automobile manufacturing site there.

He said that people coming from interior Sindh to Karachi should contact the government for allotment of plots. He declared that no old village in Karachi would be razed, adding that action would be taken against the ‘builders mafia’ and encroachers without any discrimination.

Dr Arbab said that setting up of new industries in Dhabeji would usher in a new era of progress and prosperity in the area. He said that the allottees of industrial plots in Dhabeji would have to provide jobs to local people. He said that the villagers living on such plots would have to be paid compensation for displacement.

On the occasion, many villagers said that they had no objection in the setting up of industries in the area.

The chief minister said that 12,000 acres of land in Thatta district had been earmarked for the proposed industrial zones.

In reply to a question, he said no plan for a division of Thatta district was under consideration.—PPI
