QUETTA: Two Afghan coal miners died after inhaling poisonous methane gas while working inside a mine in the Duki coal field area on Thursday.

According to Levies officials, three workers entered the mine to dig for coal when methane gas accumulated at a depth of around 1,400 feet.

The Levies and Frontier Corps personnel rescued workers “after considerable effort”, officials said. The bodies of the two victims, identified as Habibur Rehman and Saifullah, were later retrieved and taken to Duki Hospital.

After completing medico-legal formalities, the bodies were sent to their native town in Afghanistan.
