GUJRANWALA, April 7: An express train on Friday escaped a possible disaster when some armed men who wanted to target it jumped out after the action of law enforcers near the Sadhoki railway station.
The railway and motorway police arrested the four suspects who confessed during interrogation that they wanted to blow up the train.
According to reports reaching here, Khyber Mail was on way to Rawalpindi from Lahore when near the Sadhoki railway station police constable Allah Ditta saw a man with a bag talking suspiciously to someone.
Smelling a rat, the constable tried to search the suspect who whipped out his pistol and opened fire. The next moment the man jumped out of the moving train and suffered injuries. The railway police immediately took action and halted the train and chased the suspect.
Without having any clue, the motorway police in the meantime shifted the injured to the Kamoki hospital where the railway police officials arrested him. The police recovered arms and currency notes in quantity from the secret parts of the vehicle.
They confessed during interrogation that they wanted to blow up the train. The police kept their names secret.
CCB funds: Funds of Rs280 million earmarked for the citizen community board have still not been utilised since the introduction of the local governments.
Reports said the government had allocated these funds for completing public welfare projects at the district council and union council level. But the amount has been still lying with the district government unutilised for the last five years.
The EDO (community development) claimed that four development schemes had been completed under the CCB while more uplift projects were being planned with the coordination of NGOs.
He said these funds could not be spent on schemes other than CCB’s public welfare projects.
SUSPENDED: Two primary school teachers were suspended from service on Friday due to absence from duty in Lambanwali village, Rahwali.
Reports said that parliamentary secretary Ms Zille Huma Usman paid a surprise visit to the Primary School for Boys and Girls and suspended Pervez Masih and Rozina Bibi from service.
WHEAT PROCUREMENT: The food department will start wheat procurement from April 20 in the district while all godowns were being cleaned and repaired for the purpose.
This was stated by a food department spokesman here on Friday.
He said wheat growers had been asked to send their requirement of empty bags till April 10 while patwaris and food officials would provide bags to them.
Wheat growers would be given better facilities, including the transportation of wheat from field to the grain market or at procurement centres besides payment of wheat immediately.
