PESHAWAR, April 7: A training programme was held in village Tarnab Farm to raise awareness among farmers about modern techniques and practices and encourage them to increase agricultural production.

Agriculture Officer Tarnab Muzaffar Khan briefed farmers about orchard management. He said that through proper management, farmers could get rid of fruit fly and other insects and pests.

He laid stress on pruning and cleaning of fruit trees at proper time and by skilled persons in order to avoid injuries to plants. He informed farmers about harmful effects of fruit fly on plum, peach and guava.

In his address Agriculture Officer Khazana Fazli Mabood advised farmers to get themselves register with the Farm Services Centre. He said about 1600 farmers had been registered in the centre at district level. He appreciated holding of training programmes and said that it was a good platform for farming community to solve their problems.

Arshad Farooq, Scientific officer, Technology Transfer Institute Tarnab-Peshawar, introduced the role played by the PARC in technology transfer. He asked farmers to adopt modern agriculture technologies for a better living standard.

Chief guest Syed Abid Ali Shah thanked the Agriculture Extension Department and Technology Transfer Institute for holding the training programme. —APP
