ISLAMABAD, April 6: The sustainability of Pakistan’s “existing irrigated agriculture is in serious jeopardy” due to the complete stoppage of any significant surface water resource development after full commissioning of the Tarbela Dam in 1976.
Sources told Dawn on Thursday that federal government officials concerned have directed Wapda authorities to complete the feasibility studies and investigations of major mega-water projects soon with a view to minimizing what was termed “the growing threats” to the irrigated agriculture.
