KURRAM: The 15 people, who were killed in Saturday’s attack on passenger vehicles in upper Kurram, were laid to rest here on Sunday as the police arrested 25 suspects.

Roads in the district remained closed for the second consecutive day as the tribal people held jirgas to condemn the attack.

The district administration said the 15 people, two women and children among them, were buried in their ancestral graveyards.

Addressing a jirga, Haji Salim Khan, an elder of the Bangash tribe, demanded of the police and other law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest the elements involved in the attack on vehicles.

The Turi tribe also held a jirga, which was attended by ulema, tribal elders and people from different walks of life.

Speaking at the jirga, tribal leader Jalal Bangash condemned the firing incident and said that such incidents disturbed peace in the district.

Kurram deputy commissioner Javedullah Mahsud and district police officer Ahmad Shah said efforts were being made to control the situation.

They said that arrests had been made in areas close to the spot of attack on the vehicles.
