SWAT: A man allegedly murdered his wife in the name of honour in Banjot area here on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Manglawar police, a 25-year-old woman, identified as Salma, was brutally murdered by her husband Mohammad Iqbal, his brother Dawood and the two brothers of the deceased Amjad Ali and Fayaz on suspicion of having illicit relations. After the murder, the suspects reportedly threw the body down a nearby hill.

The police were able to apprehend accused Mohammad Iqbal and his other three accomplices involved in the crime and launched an investigation. The deceased’s body was shifted to a local hospital for post-mortem examination.

This is the second reported case of domestic violence resulting in a fatality in the region in recent days.

On October 10, 2024, a 37-year-old woman, mother of four children, was also shot dead by her husband in Usman Abad, a neighborhood of Mingora.

The police report said that the accused named Sya Hosh, a drug addict, had allegedly killed his wife over a domestic dispute.

Women rights activists stressed that both incidents highlight the urgent need for addressing domestic violence and honour-related crimes in the region.
