SHANGLA: The Shangla police have arrested five activists of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement and sent them to jail after the deputy commissioner ordered their detention under Section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order.

DC Mohammad Fawad confirmed the arrest of PTM activists and told Dawn that the other PTM activists, whose detention under MPO was also ordered, would be arrested soon.

PTM district coordinator Rehmanullah Khan insisted that the organisation’s five activists campaigning for the Oct 11 Qaumi Jirga had been sent to jail.

He said the detainees included Fawad Khan, Usman Pashteen, Manasib Ali, Ziaullah Khan and Wasim Raza.

Mr Khan said orders for his detention under MPO were also issued.
