HYDERABAD, April 4: The Sindh Unity Council of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement has accused the government of creating political and economic crises in the country by following wrong and anti-people policies. The council at a meeting held here on Monday discussed the obtaining political and economic situation in the country, especially in Sindh.

It said the government had failed to run affairs of the country in a proper manner and the rulers were trying to protect interests of Punjab to perpetuate their rule.

The meeting noted that the country could only be kept united if the government gave up anti-people projects and policies and granted autonomy to the provinces in accordance with a formula presented by PONM.

It was of the opinion that without elimination of the role of the army and agencies in politics, the country would remain weak politically and democratically.

It demanded that the army should return to barracks and the administration of the country should be handed over to elected representatives of people.

The council criticized the Sindh government for failing to protect rights of the province.

It pointed out that the Sindh government had performed a passive role on issues of the Kalabagh dam, NFC award, influx of outsiders, issuance of NICs to outsiders and demolition of ancient villages of Sindhis in Karachi and Hyderabad.

It condemned that the demolition of the villages and issuance of ejection notices to villagers and made it clear that Sindhis were the true heirs and owners of Sindh.

Expressing concern over the influx of outsiders, it observed that it was a conspiracy to convert the indigenous population into a minority in the province.

It demanded that people who had entered Sindh after 1954 should be expelled from the province.

It condemned the ongoing military operation in Balochistan and registration of false cases against Baloch leaders and their arrests.

The meeting observed that the Balochistan imbroglio could not be resolved by use of force but through talks. It demanded that the Balochistan operation should be stopped forthwith.
