KARACHI, April 4: Hundreds of houses located on the Choudhry Khaliquzzaman Road, Clifton’s blocks 8 and 9 and the adjacent Delhi Colony have been receiving contaminated water for the last one week. People residing on the said road complained that though supply of stinking water of black colour was on for the last six or seven days, the KWSB officials concerned had not yet taken measures to rectify the fault responsible for it despite a number of complaints made to them.

Deploring that the KWSB officials were not taking any interest in removing the causes of contaminated water on the pretext that the area fell in the jurisdiction of the cantonment board, they said it was beyond their comprehension as to why were they paying water and sewerage charges to the KWSB then.

“Even if the locality falls in the jurisdiction of cantonment board, the KWSB officials should handle such work on priority keeping in view the seriousness of the issue,” a senior citizen remarked, saying that as far as the cantonment board was concerned it did not possess the expertise to undertake such works.

Residents suspected that filthy water of an adjacent drain, from where three pipelines were passing through, might be seeping into the water line.

They apprehended that fatal diseases might spread in their localities in the form of epidemic if immediate measures were not taken to rectify the fault.
