ISLAMABAD, April 1: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of life and property in the earthquake in Iran.

“I learnt with a deep sense of grief about the tragic loss of life and property in the earthquake that hit Lorestan province in western Iran yesterday,” President Musharraf said in a message to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The president said the people and government of Pakistan shared the grief and sorrow of the brotherly people of Iran.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in peace and grant the bereaved families strength to bear the loss with fortitude.

In his message to the Iranian president, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that having faced a devastating earthquake only recently, the people in Pakistan felt saddened all the more to know about the loss of life and property in Bourojerd and Doroud.

“We stand by our brethren in Iran in this sad hour,” he added.—APP
