KARACHI, March 31: The head of Pakistan-Romania parliamentary friendship group, Grigore Craciunescu, will lead a delegation of parliamentarians to Pakistan on a four-day official visit from April 2-6, 2006, at the invitation of the National Assembly speaker.

The visit is the outcome of a successful and positive interaction between Senate chairman Mohammedmian Soomro and Mr Craciunescu last year when the former visited Romania.

The Romanian delegation consists of senior senators and members of the Chamber of Deputies representing all main political parties. The delegation is expected to hold wide-ranging discussions with the speaker of the National Assembly, Senate chairman, members of Pakistan-Romania friendship group in the National Assembly and senior officials of the ministries of commerce and foreign affairs.

The delegation will also visit Lahore where the Punjab governor will receive the Romanian parliamentarians.

According to the Pakistan embassy in the Romanian capital, Ambassador Sanaullah met Mr Craciunescu and other members of the delegation to explore avenues for purposeful cooperation between the two countries. Both the sides agreed on the need to invigorate bilateral ties.

The Romanian parliamentary delegation has promised to identify some specific proposals to enable the ministry of commerce and trade in Islamabad to devise a workable action plan for raising the current level of bilateral trade.

Ambassador Sanaullah briefed the delegation about initiatives taken by the government to combat terrorism, promote good relations with India and boost economic growth in the country.—APP
