SUKKUR: Sukkur police claimed to have gunned down two wanted dacoits during an encounter on Military Road within the limits of Abad police station late on Wednesday night.

Police officials said that the armed forced barged into a medical store and robbed its owner at gunpoint of all the cash, mobile phone set and other valuable belongings. Police received information about the robbery when the dacoits were trying to flee the area after committing the crime and a team of special commando unit immediately caught up with the criminals, they said.

They said that the robbers opened fire at the police team but both were killed when police returned the fire. They had found TT pistols and bullets lying by the dacoits’ bodies, said police officials.

They said that Sukkur SSP Amjad Ali Shaikh personally monitored the operation and inspected the crime scene. The dead bodies were shifted to Sukkur Civil Hospital where they were identified as those of Ghufran alias Ghufi Malik and Kashif Malik, they said.

They said the criminals were wanted by police in several cases of heinous crimes such snatching, theft, robbery and encounters with police. They were collecting criminal records of the dacoits from different police stations, they said, adding the bodies were handed over to heirs after completion of post mortem.

Hostage rescued in Shikarpur

Shikarpur police claimed to have rescued unharmed a hostage, Suhail Lashari, who was kidnapped two days back in jurisdiction of Rustam police station and taken to the district’s riverine area.
