ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB), on the request of Capital Development Authority (CDA), has completed a pre-feasibility study for the establishment of the first-ever proper bus terminal in Islamabad.
“CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa met with a delegation of the bank on Thursday.
Under this project, a state-of-the art bus terminal will be established over an area of 32 acres in I-11 sector,” read a press release issued by the CDA.
It said the ADB on request of the civic body had completed pre-feasibility study of this project.
It said additionally, a commercial area would be developed alongside the bus terminal. The proposed bus terminal will also provide overnight parking facilities in addition to terminals of large buses and mini-buses.
Furthermore, the press release said construction of the bus terminal would help eliminate encroachments and bus stands in various areas of the city. It will also improve traffic flow within the city.
The CDA chief instructed that the bus terminal be interconnected to key locations in Islamabad. He stated that the purpose of this initiative was to improve the public transportation system in the capital and provide modern travel facilities to passengers.
He also emphasised that the project would adopt the best financial model to ensure its viability.
