LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman was martyred in a gun attack in the Sabukhel area of Bannu district on Sunday night.

Allahyar Khan, an official of the city police station, was attacked in the limits of Mandan police station.

A police official told Dawn that Allahyar was sent to the Sabukhel area of Mandan town on a special assignment.

“Attackers fired at Allahyar when he was riding a motorcycle, and fled” he said.

The official said a large police contingent rushed to the area and launched a search for the gunmen.

Funeral prayer for the police official was offered at the police lines in Bannu city, with public health minister Pakhtoonyar Khan, RPO Imran Shahid, assistant commissioner Syed Abrar Ali Shah, SP city Ihsanuddin and SP rural Raza Mohammad being in attendance.

They placed wreaths on his coffin, while a police contingent presented a guard of honour to the martyred official, who was later laid to rest in his native area with full official honour.

Meanwhile, gunmen killed a resident over enmity in the Wanda Bagni area here on Monday.

The police said Amanullah and Samiullah opened fire at Rafiullah, a 31-year-old resident of the Meenakhel area, when he was on the way to his tubewell.

The attack caused him critical injuries, which led to his death at the Government City Hospital.

The police said they had registered a case against the killers and began a search for them.

Also, an employee of the education department was killed over a dispute in the Saeedkhel area of Lakki city.

The police said gunman Irfan of Wanda Shahabuddin area attacked Javed Iqbal, 44 and fled.

They said the people shifted the injured to the Government City Hospital, whose doctors referred him to a hospital in Bannu but he died on the way.

The police said the deceased worked in the education department as a Class-IV employee.

They said they had begun an investigation after booking the suspected killer.
