GUJRAT: The detention of Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf ‘s Gujrat district president Saleem Sarwar Jaura has been challenged by his wife in the Lahore High Court.

Ume Rubab, who has filed the petition through advocate Azhar Siddique, alleged that her husband had illegaly been detained in the Gujrat district jail under detention orders issued by DC Safdar Virk dated Aug 21. She said that her husband had been detained in violation of the constitution.

In her petition, she named interior ministry, Punjab government through cheif secretary, Gujrat DC, district police officer and station house officer of Civil Lines police as respondents.

Family and party sources said that Mr Jaurahad been picked up from his Gujrat residence prior to party’s Islamabad rally that was cancelled a week ago.
