KARACHI, March 29: The Pentangular Cup, which is being revived after a long lapse, gets under way from Thursday with Faisalabad taking on PIA in the opening four-day fixture at Lahore’s Qadhafi Stadium.
Faisalabad, runners-up in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League this season, start as slight favourites after winning the National One-day Regional Cricket Championship.
PIA, who finished runners-up to National Bank in the Patron’s Trophy, face a tough task since they are without a number of players who are currently on national duty in Sri Lanka.
Sialkot, who became Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League champions for the first time, launch their campaign with a game against National Bank at the Multan Cricket Stadium from Friday.
Karachi Harbour, who won promotion to next season’s Quaid Trophy Gold League by securing the Silver League title in the current season, are the fifth team in the competition that carries a prize-money of Rs1 million.
The winners stand to scoop Rs600,000 and the runners-up Rs300,000. In addition there are five individual awards, each worth Rs25,000, are on offer for the top batsman, bowler, wicket-keeper and the fielder.
