LAHORE, March 29: The MMA has planned a ‘big show’ in the provincial metropolis on April 22. Alliance president Qazi Husain Ahmad told MMA district leaders at a convention here on Wednesday that the show would make the government realise what a public meeting is.

“We won’t summon the government functionaries to swell the gathering and nor shall we talk to the people from behind a bullet-proof glass wall,” he said, referring to the arrangements made for Gen Musharraf at the PML’s March 23 convention at Minar-i-Pakistan.

The MMA has also chosen the same venue for its April 22 Shan-i-Mustafa conference.

The Qazi urged participants in the convention, mostly imams and khateebs, to use their position for convincing the masses to attend the proposed conference.

Earlier, he told the audience that both the religious alliance and the ARD had agreed on the point that Gen Musharraf must quit as the army chief and the president. “Gen Musharraf’s removal is a must for holding fair and transparent polls.”

He said both the alliances were also unanimous on restoring the Constitution as it was on Oct 12, 1999, so there was no question of controversy over 17th amendment (incorporated in the basic law by the ruling PML with the help of the MMA).
