QALAT (Afghanistan), March 28: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday called on Taliban radicals to stop being slaves to people organising violence and join peace process as he made a rare visit to a hotbed of a crippling insurgency. President Karzai visited Zabul province.

The president was surrounded by Afghan and US security forces for the day-long visit. Military helicopters hovered overhead as he opened a hospital, a school, a mosque and a madrassa.

“You should know that those who give you weapons and tell you to go and kill teachers, destroy your land, they want to keep you as their slaves,” President Karzai said.—AFP
