GUJRAT, March 27: The chief secretary on Monday directed the district coordination officers (DCOs) in the province to hold seminars to allay the public fear on bird flu virus and declared the Punjab virus free.
A written letter revealed that the Gujranwala DCO had held a similar function the other days to inform the people about the bird flu virus symptoms and precautionary measures to combat it.
The letter said: “The government is of the view that not a single case of bird flu was detected in any part of the province. The government had conducted a complete daily survey of poultry farms in the province through laboratory tests but no virus was detected. Hence the people are allowed to use the poultry products without any fear.”
The Gujrat DCO had forwarded the letter to EDO (agriculture) Shahid Rashid Awan with a direction for compliance.
Mr Awan told Dawn that he had given the task for holding a seminar to livestock and dairy development department.
SPRING PLANTATION: District nazim Shafaat Husain on Monday planted around 100 saplings on Shah Jehangir Road.
The nazim had directed the forest department to lay special emphasis on planting saplings along roads.
He gave a target of 30,000 saplings to be planted on various roads and 400 date palms on the GT Road in 2006.
