KARACHI, March 27: A policeman was shot dead by unknown persons in Korangi Monday evening.

Police said Head Constable Ajaz Gujjar was sitting at a PCO in Zia Colony when three persons on a motorcycle pulled up there and opened fire at him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. The victim was in charge of the Qayyumabad police chowki.

Police were investigating the matter, saying they could not immediately ascertain the motive for the killing.

In another incident, a student of class X killed his father in Site on Monday.

Police said a rickshaw driver was killed by his son during a domestic dispute. Police said Sahib Khan was having argument with his son Arshad Khan, 18, when the boy opened fire at him. Police arrested Arshad. During interrogation he told police that his father was forcing him to end his studies and start driving rickshaw on a full-time basis.

ATTEMPT: A gang of armed bandits broke into a house in Orangi Town, but were forced to flee when the occupants of the house raised alarm.

A family member said the bandits were trying to enter the house — 92, Block D, Saleemabad, Orangi Town. The family also informed the police helpline, but when a police mobile arrived there, the suspects had fled.

According to Hafeez Iqbal, this was the second such incident in their house.

ROBBED: A Dawn staffer was deprived of his cellphone and cash by armed suspects at Gurumandir on late Sunday night.

Anis Hamdani was intercepted near the Sabeelwali masjid by two suspects on a motorcycle. They pointed a TT pistol to his head and relieved him of his cellphone and cash.

Aafter depriving Mr Hamdani of his valuables, the suspects intercepted another car and tried to rob its occupants. Meanwhile, a group of people overpowered the suspects and took them to a police station.
