BAHAWALPUR, March 25: An under-trial prisoner died in the new central jail on Saturday. Jail authorities claimed that the prisoner, Muhammad Wakil, who was on judicial remand, suffered a massive heart attack which he could not survive.
His body was handed over to his family after the postmortem examination. He was a resident of Khairpur Tamewali.
RAIN: Heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm and windstorm lashed Bahawalpur city and its suburbs Saturday afternoon.
The rain started at about 3pm and continued for about an hour. It was accompanied by a hailstorm and windstorms.
A number of trees were damaged and signboards fell on the roads and in bazaars.
The local met office recorded 17 millimetres of rain, while the windstorm’s velocity was about 60 kilometres per hour which caused a slight damage to the standing wheat crop.
Due to the heavy downpour the low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater, while power supply and phone service also got affected in many areas.
