LAHORE, March 24: The Punjab government will provide 2,500 laser levellers to same number of union councils in the province, says Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi.

Talking to a delegation of farmers, he said 500 levellers would be distributed among farmers this year and the rest of 2,000 in the next three years.

These levellers would ensure that land was properly levelled and water was conserved. An imported leveller used to cost Rs800,000 but now the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission was manufacturing them locally and cost had come down to Rs320,000, he said.

The Punjab government was offering 50 per cent subsidy on them, thus reducing the price to Rs160,000 only, he said. —
