CHITRAL: Four persons died and 10 sustained serious injuries when a jeep going to Yarkhoon valley from Chitral city plunged into a deep ravine in Theengo Char area near the Brep village of Upper Chitral on Saturday night.

An official of Rescue 1122 told Dawn that the vehicle was carrying 17 passengers when it skidded off the slippery and narrow road during torrential rain.

He said that with the help of the local people, the Rescue 1122 teams removed the injured and the bodies from the ravine to the nearby health centre of Aga Khan Health Service, from where the injured were shifted to the Mastuj and Booni hospitals.

Those died in the accident included driver of the vehicle, Sher Nadir, and a woman, identified as wife of Sher Wali, a retired official of Chitral Scouts, while the names of the two children aged 8 and 10 could not be known till filing of this report.

Deputy medical superintendent of DHQ Hospital Chitral Dr Israruddin told Dawn that six of the injured had been referred to Peshawar hospitals, out of them, three were in precarious condition as they suffered head injuries.
