LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of the Punjab Development Authority (PDA) and sought a list of all illegal housing schemes in Lahore.

“Every housing scheme will be reviewed and [it will be] decided whether to regularise it or not,” she said during her visit to the LDA headquarters here on Friday.

The CM also approved the remodeling and beautification of MM Alam Road, and directed the authorities concerned to operate a tram in the Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market and Hali Road areas.

She also ordered the construction, renovation and rehabilitation of streets in Gulberg and its adjoining areas, along with the installation of tuff tiles.

She approved the Karim Block to Motorway Signal-Free Corridor Plan, under which two underpasses would be constructed on a six-way road from Karim Block to the motorway.

Also orders scrutiny of illegal housing schemes

She also approved commercialisation of various roads in Lahore, and ordered early completion of sports complexes at Minar-i-Pakistan and China Scheme.

Earlier, LDA Director General Tahir Farooq gave a briefing about the ongoing projects and performance of LDA.

“LDA will collect many times more revenue this financial year as compared to last year’s,” he said. A sum of Rs46 billion revenue target has been set for the LDA, he added.

“An online service is being launched for the citizens to get their residential maps approved. The government plots worth billions of rupees have been recovered as a result of checking and sifting of records.”

Ms Maryam directed the LDA to complete the process of sifting and checking of records as soon as possible.

“Special attention should be given to the development of LDA City,” she said.

The chief minister also visited the Global Village.
