KARACHI: A man, who was facing financial problems, died by suicide after a quarrel with his wife in Orangi Town on Friday, police and rescue services said.

They said that 35-year-old Ali Sher ended his life by shooting himself in the head with his pistol in his home near Pareshan Chowk in Faqir Colony.

SSP-West Dr Hafeezur Rehman Bugti told Dawn that initially there was confusion about the case as family members were not sharing information with the police.

Deceased Ali’s elder brother, Zaheer, had told the police that he was standing outside the house when he heard the sound of gunshot.

He rushed to the house and found his brother bleeding profusely from the head. He said he did not see anyone entering or leaving the house. Ali was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Later, the police grilled all family members one by one and the wife of deceased Ali narrated the whole story, saying that they had quarrelled with each other because they were facing financial difficulties and after a heated argument, Ali shot himself in the head. Thereafter, she said she had hidden the pistol.

Later, the weapon was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, a suspected mugger was arrested in wounded condition in an alleged encounter in North Karachi.

Police said that the encounter took place near Anda Mor and the held suspect was identified as Saud, 36.
