PESHAWAR, March 22: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has said that the provincial government was planning to increase seats in health training institutes for women from backward areas to improve the health care delivery system. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a midwifery training course at the nursing school in the Mardan Medical Complex on Wednesday, he said that development of human resources was necesary for improving the health care system.
He said the provincial government had made a big increase in allocation for the health sector. Priority is being given to ongoing project has been included in the ADP.
Mr Khan said that sufficient staff would be provided to the Mardan Medical Complex and a package for free health services at the district level was being prepared.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdul Jamil praised the contributions made by Unicef for improvement of healthcare system in Mardan. He said that Unicef had provided assistance for improvement of mother and child care services in the hospitals of Takhtbai and Lund Khwar.
HEPATITIS: NWFP Chief Secretary Ijaz Ahmed Qureshi chaired a high-level meeting of officials and experts of the health department to assess the progress in the programme for controlling hepatitis.
He regretted that no practical steps had been taken on decisions taken in earlier meetings. He said the full impact of hepatitis disease, involving huge treatment expenses, ha dto be borne by the poor segment of society.
He called for an effective campaign for controlling hepatitis and promised all possible help from the provincial government.
