HARIPUR: Residents of Khalabat Township held a protest rally against the unscheduled prolonged loadshedding here on Wednesday.

Led by PMLN’s leader, advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan and president Hazara chapter of Awami Tehreek Dr Jehangir Abbasi, the protesters took out the protest rally from Khalabat Township, a locality of Tarbela dam’s affectees, and chanted slogans against the prolonged and unscheduled power cuts in front of the office of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) near Central Jail Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the residents of Haripur and Khalabat Township were paying their bills regularly, but they were still facing lengthy and unscheduled loadshedding, which had made the life of consumers miserable in hot weather.

The speakers demanded uninterrupted power supply and threatened to repeat protest rallies if the Pesco failed to provide uninterrupted power supply.

The Pesco officials held negotiation with the protesters’ leaders and assured them of not carrying out unscheduled loadshedding in future.

Meanwhile, unidentified thieves took away hundreds of meters of main electricity supply cables, , leaving a large number of consumers of Khalabat Township without electricity during the last week, said people in the area, on Wednesday.

They informed Pesco authorities and local police that an organized gang of wire thieves had been busy stealing main power cables in the area of Mohalla Bandi and Mohalla Darul Aloom.
