NAROWAL: The newly-constructed Zafarwal-Shakargarh road has been submerged by drain water due to the unavailability of sewerage in the adjacent area.

There is no proper sewerage for the residential area around Pindi Bohri Stop on Zafarwal Shakargarh Road, resulting in accumulation of the knee-deep dirty water on the road.

The residents of the nearby area used to dispose of sewage into large plots near the road earlier but the owner of these plots blocked the drain and raised the level of his land. Now instead of going to the plots, the wastewater is accumulating on the Zafarwal Shakargarh road. The traffic on both sides of the road passes through sewage.

The local residents fear if the district administration Narowal does not lay sewerage for the adjacent area, the road would be damaged and millions of rupees spent by the government would go waste within a month.

Muhammad Ajmal and Hafiz Samiullah, who live in the neighbourhood, said they had sent requests to the district administration several times to lay the sewerage but the government officers did not any attention to resolving the basic issue of their area.

They said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had started a cleaning campaign across the province and she should see what cleaning arrangements were in place in Narowal district. They demanded the CM take notice of the situation.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza said had sought a report on the issue from the officials concerned and arrangements would be made for drainage of sewage after reception of the report.
