ISLAMABAD, March 21: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has initiated a programme to provide online lecturing and video conferencing facilities to 18 pubic-sector universities and degree-awarding institutions by September this year. Nobel laureates, leading experts from the US, Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia and other countries as well as by local eminent professors would deliver lectures regularly in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, physics, mathematics, engineering sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, genetics, economics, social sciences and other disciplines.

The collaboration between universities and institutes both local and foreign in sharing research work and data will consequently enhance the quality of education in the country.

Lecture streaming will be done from a central location to all public-sector universities.

Video conferencing is an extremely useful method of communication because it saves time, expense, travel and can accomplish the objectives of a physical meeting.

The new technology has the potential of becoming ground breaking communication tool for Pakistani universities. Through the facility, students will have the opportunity to interact with leading teachers in their respective fields, exchange ideas and share their research experiences.
