LOWER DIR: Two youth were killed and five others injured when a Rawalpindi-bound pick-up truck plunged into a deep ravine in Tarai area here on Friday, residents and Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said that the deceased were identified as Ramzan, 20, and Sudais, 18, residents of Achar Bala area of Upper Dir district.

They said that Ramzan died on the spot, while Sudais succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

A Rescue 1122 emergency team reached the spot and retrieved the injured and the body from the gorge.

The injured, including driver Ali Rehman, 29, Farhan, 19, Abdullah, 9, Lateef Khan, 19, and Bilal, 24, all residents of Achar Bala village, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Timergara.

Two of the injured were later referred to Peshawar due to their critical condition.

The Timergara police registered a case and started investigations.

Meanwhile, a Frontier Corps sepoy, identified as Mohammad Yasin, was injured during a crossfire in Sar Laka area of Shahi here on Friday, sources said.

They said that an intelligence-based operation against suspects was in progress when they opened fire, which the security forces retaliated.
