TOBA TEK SINGH, March 20: Students of Government Prem Sati College, Kamalia, on Monday brought traffic to a halt for about half an hour on Kamalia-Chichawatni Road for kidnapping and torturing their fellow by outsiders.
Reports said that Hasnain Bajwa and his seven unidentified accomplices kidnapped first year student Waqas as he came out of the college. The accused took him away to Sabzi Mandi area where they severely tortured him to settle old score.
Receiving information, college students came on the road and blocked traffic in protest. However, protesting students dispersed when police officials assured the arrest of the accused and registration of a case against them. The injured student was admitted to the Kamalia THQ Hospital.
CONVENTION: A convention of Bhatta Mazdoor Union expressed concern over illegally detaining of kiln workers to use them as bonded labour by kiln owners.
The convention, arranged by an NGO, was attended by a large number of kiln workers from all across the district. It was addressed by Bonnie Mendes, Atif Jamil, district council minority member Ayub Anjum, union council naib nazim Kamran Zafar and others.
They threatened to come on road if owners forced workers to return advance payments outstanding against them and did not set them free.
Speakers also demanded that the labour officer should take action on the applications of workers against kiln owners.
Meanwhile, kiln owners continued their strike on Monday in favour of their demands.
CAR STOLEN: A car was stolen from outside a house in Housing Colony No 1 here on Sunday night.
Zahid of Tandlianwala (Faisalabad) found his car (1868-FDG) missing on Monday morning which he parked outside the house of Ghaffar.
INVITATION: PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has invited former MNA Hamza (Gojra) and former federal parliamentary affairs minister Chaudhry Asadur Rehman (Kamalia) to London to attend a two-day party’s central executive committee meeting being held on March 23 and 24.
