KARACHI, March 20: At the Third International Mechanical Engineering Congress (IMEC) 2006 held here at the Institute of Engineering Pakistan (IEP), engineers unanimously adopted a resolution demanding restoration of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to its original status.

The two-day congress on “The cutting edge technologies in mechanical engineering” commenced on Monday, at the IEP Building. Former speaker of the National Assembly Illahi Bux Soomro was the chief guest.

Speaking at the congress, he emphatically said that the PEC should be restored to its original status forthwith.

Prof Dr A. A. Junejo was of the view that over twenty research and development organisations including the PCSIR needed to provide the result of activities for initializing by the industries.

Prof Junejo said that it was vital in face of the limited resources that the country at the moment possessed.

The congress was attended by senior and junior engineers from academic institutions including NED, Usman Institute of Technology, PAF-KIET, PN College and Quaid-i-Awam University of Sciences and Technology.—PPI
