KARACHI, March 18: Sindh Chief Minister Ghulam Arbab Rahim on Saturday said that his government would leave no stone unturned to defend the interests of Sindh, but Pakistan’s interests were above all.

Addressing a seminar on “Strengthening Pakistan: unity in diversity”, organized by the Inter-Provincial Coordination Department, Sindh, he said that autonomy would help provinces to boost up their economy and solve their problems. He said that interaction among provinces would help all of them to understand their problems and constraints. “We could solve all chronic problems faced by each province by helping one another,” he said.

The chief minister said that inter-provincial coordination was not tantamount to “one-unit” that in the past had created resentment in provinces against each other.

Arbab Rahim alleged that some people were fanning differences between provinces in the pretext of language issue, “but we would never allow them to fulfil their agenda.” He said that Urdu was a language of communication between the people of all provinces and a symbol of unity as well as integrity of the country.

Calling for more unity amongst provinces, he said that the country was facing many problems, and Pakistanis along with the whole Ummah was under pressure from international quarters. He said that provinces should tolerate each other as being equal partners in the federation.

Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal, Balochistan Sports & Environment Minister Younus Chengazi, journalist Mehmood Shaam, and other speakers also spoke. –PPI/APP
