CHITRAL: Inter-district polo cup tournament started here on Sunday in which 50 teams, 25 teams each from Lower and Upper Chitral districts, are participating.

The event was inaugurated by Lower Chitral DC Mohammad Imran Khan who threw the ball into the ground to kick start the first match of the tourney amid clapping of thousands of polo fans and the traditional music of drums and flute.

Five matches were played on the first day in which Chitral Souts, Chitral A, Reshun, Upper Chitral police and Headquarter Booni defeated their opponents Youth Club, Sub-division Chitral, Morder and Chitral-B respectively.

Addressing on the occasion, DC Imran Khan said that the tournament was a mega event of polo which provided recreation to thousands of people every day drawn from every nook and corner of both Upper and Lower Chitral while hundreds of foreign tourists were also in attendance.

He said the event also served as the opportunity of a talent hunt as the selection of the players for the four teams of Chitral to represent it in Shandur Polo Festival will be made on the basis of their performance here.

The tourney will continue till 13th of this month and five matches will be played daily.
