ISLAMABAD: In a step towards provision of foolproof security to foreigners, including Chinese nationals, the government has decided to replicate Safe City project in Dasu and Chilas.

While chairing a meeting to review security matters in Dasu and Chilas on Saturday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi formed a special committee comprising Islamabad police chief, Hazara regional police officer and a Wapda representative and directed it to submit a comprehensive plan within next 15 days for the establishment of Safe City projects.

The minister said the purpose of Safe City was not to just install cameras but to introduce a system, equipped with advanced technology and artificial intelligence tools, to ensure surveillance and security of the entire area. He emphasised the implementation of the project on the pattern of Islamabad and Lahore Safe City projects.

He said it was government’s responsibility to ensure security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan. He vowed all possible steps would be taken in this regard, mentioning that the prime minister had issued directive for establishment of Safe City project in Dasu and Chilas.

The meeting was attended by interior secretary, Wapda chairman, Islamabad chief commissioner, and Islamabad IGP. Also, additional chief secretary (home), KP’s additional IG and RPO Hazara joined it via video link.
