LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ petition challenging the appointment of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as deputy prime minister.

Petitioner Ashba Kamran contended that there was no provision in the Constitution for the office of deputy prime minister. She said the respondent was appointed deputy prime minister merely through a notification.

She asked the court to set aside the appointment of Mr Dar for being unconstitutional.

A federal law officer opposed the maintainability of the petition, saying the petitioner had no locus standi to assail the appointment. He said there was no illegality in the appointment of Mr Dar.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan dismissed the petition for being not maintainable.

The cabinet division on April 28 issued a notification giving additional charge of deputy prime minister to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
