KARACHI, March 15: The economic relations between Germany and Pakistan have been prospering with trade volume close to 1.5 billion Euros and there is a scope for further expansion in the field of trade and investment.

This was stated by the Consul-General of Germany in Karachi, Verena Grafin von Roedern while talking to APP after the inaugural session of the workshop on Reflections on the current crises of European Union” on Wednesday.

Ms Roedern said that at the moment Pakistan had exported slightly below 600 million Euros to Germany which importing into Pakistan was close to one billion Euros. At present, she said, 60 per cent of exports pertained to textile sector. She said that she could see more trade with Pakistan if it was slightly more diversified.

She stated that a big German cash and carry company had also planned to open up shops in Pakistan.

She pointed out that the two countries enjoyed very close relationship since the inception of Pakistan. These good relations were underlined by the recent high-level visits of the German Chancellor and the Foreign Minister in 2004 and the German Defence Minister in December 2005. “Our soldiers also remained involved in the relief work in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake,” she added.—APP
