PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf will hold public gatherings and processions for the release of the party’s founding chairman Imran Khan and other incarcerated leaders and workers on the first anniversary of the May 9, 2023 violent protests.

PTI’s additional general secretary, Khhyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter Irfan Saleem told Dawn that public gatherings and rallies would be staged in each district and constituency of provincial assembly. “MNAs, MPAs and office-bearers of the party will lead the gatherings and rallies.”

Mr Saleem said a public gathering would be staged at Chowk Yadgar in the provincial capital on Thursday evening to be attended by the ministers, MPAs and PTI leaders from Peshawar.

He said MPAs from Peshawar would take out processions from their respective constituencies and would march on different roads before reaching Chowk Yadgar.

He said flags of Pakistan and PTI would be hoisted on the buildings.

Meanwhile, MPA Fazal Ilahi staged a hunger strike camp outside the Peshawar Press Club demanding the release of Imran and other leaders and workers.

PTI activists chanted slogans in favour of their leader on the occasion.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Ilahi said they would continue struggle for the release of Imran.
