KOHAT: Police arrested a man for trying to assault a five-year-old girl in Shakardarra here on Wednesday.

Police said that the man tried to assault the girl in his quarter but she was saved by her grandfather. They said that grandfather of the girl told them that the accused was residing in their neighbourhood. They said that he was sitting outside his house when he heard screams of her granddaughter.

They said that he rushed and entered the room where he found the man trying to assault the minor girl. They said parents should not allow their children to play outside their homes in the absence of their relatives.

A statement issued by the office of DPO Umer Khan said that soon after the incident was reported, they arrested the man. It said that the accused belonged to Muzaffargarh area of Punjab. He was residing with the family of his maternal uncle in neighboured of the victim.

Police registered a case against him under Child Protection Act of 2017 and Sections 376 of Zina Bil Jabbar on the complaint of the grandfather of the girl.

The statement said that such savages should be made an example as they disturbed the entire society. It said that it was the prime responsibility of police to safeguard the lives and properties of people.
