LOWER DIR: The local leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party said here on Tuesday that the history of their party was replete with sacrifices and its workers would never compromise on democracy and rule of law in the country.
They were addressing an event held in Odigram to observe the 11th death anniversary of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Zahir Shah Khan aka Bhai Jan.
Bhai Jan, the then district naib nazim, was killed along with his seven comrades during an election campaign in Babagam area of the restive Maidan when a roadside bomb hit his convoy on May 7, 2013.
He was running a campaign for his brother, former MPA Mohammad Zamin Khan, who was a candidate for a provincial assembly seat.
PPP workers from different parts of the district attended the function. Mohammad Zamin Khan, PPP district president and former provincial minister Mahmoodzeb Khan, general secretary Syed Ashfaq Bacha, information secretary Advocate Alamzeb, Naeemullah, Nawabzada Ahmadzeb and others addressed the event.
They paid tributes to their fallen comrade and said that he was killed to keep PPP away from parliament.
Speakers said that history of Pakistan Peoples Party was full of such sacrifices and it would never compromise on democracy and rule of law in the country.
They said that PPP founder Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, his daughter Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Zahir Shah and several others sacrificed their lives for nation.
They also rejected imposition of taxes in Malakand region and said Pakistan Peoples Party workers would strongly resist the plan.
SALARY: The administration of Timergara Medical College on Tuesday stopped the salaries of its 17 employees for their long absence, violation of discipline and maligning the college staff on social media.
In a letter, issued by the college administration, the employees were warned to be terminated in case of their failure to satisfy the administration.
FINE: The food inspector, Shabir Ahmad, paid surprise visits to different markets in Talash and checked the weight and price of roti, fruits, vegetables, chicken and meat.
He fined several shopkeepers and naanbais for overcharging customers. Police were asked to register cases against 10 shopkeepers.
