MESS ON THE ROADS: An intersection on Khayaban-i-Bahria in Phase IV of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of Karachi remains clogged with traffic in the evening. It takes me around 30 minutes to get there from the Stadium Road, but I have to spend as much time crossing that inter- section alone. While motorists continue to shout at each other out of frustration, the traffic police force remains missing from the scene. At least two traffic constables are required at the spot during peak hours daily.

REPAIR WORK: The parapet wall of Natha Khan Bridge had collapsed over three months ago, but the repair work started recently only when a foreign dignitary paid a state visit to Karachi. It is disheartening that even such essential repairs are not done as a matter of routine. The civic authorities should pay consistent attention to such matters, and ensure timely completion of infrastructure projects across the city.

TRAFFIC SIGNALS: The absence of functional traffic signals in Turbat poses a constant threat to drivers and pedestrians. The issue is further compounded by inadequate roads. The absence of traffic signals leads to confusion and accidents at most intersections. The situation is particularly bad during evening hours. The authorities should install traffic signals at crucial points throughout Turbat, and keep them functional.

TEACHERS’ STIPENDS: I have been appointed as an intern under the Sindh Teaching Interns Programme (STIP), and teaching classes XI and XII. According to the appointment order, a fixed stipend of Rs60,000 is to be paid to all such interns every month. Initially, they received the stipend after nine months. It has been four months since then, and there has been no further payment. How can an individual afford to live without a monthly salary? The authorities concerned should regularise the payment of salaries.
