OKARA, March 14: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) observed a complete strike in public and private hospitals and staged a rally on Tuesday against the DPO for registration of a false case against a doctor.

Renala police registered a theft case against Dr Iftikhar Amjad, arrested him and humiliated him at the police station.

The PMA had been protesting against the incident for the last three days. On Tuesday, it held a rally carrying banners inscribed with slogans against police.

Doctors also observed a complete strike in all private and government hospitals except the emergency ward of the DHQ Hospital.

Addressing the rally, PMA president Dr Azam Khan and secretary-general Dr Abdul Aleem Asif demanded transfer of the DPO.

Later on, a PMA delegation called on DCO Chaudhry Aslam who contacted the Sheikhupura range DIG by phone and apprised him of the incident. The DIG suspended from service SI Abdul Salam and asked SP Imtiaz Malik to submit a report within three days.

Following an assurance by the DIG, doctors called off their strike.
