Karachi Whites in dire straits

KARACHI, Feb 3: Karachi Whites were heading for their first defeat in the Quaid Trophy Grade-I championship after Bahawalpur took a first innings lead of 300 at Bahawalpur Stadium Sunday.

According to details available here, despite fine knocks by debutant opener Saif Ashraf (61 off 156 balls) and the diminutive Mohammad Masroor (66 off 95 balls), Karachi Whites were struggling at 241 for six in their second innings at draw of stumps.

Karachi Whites lost skipper Ghulam Ali cheaply but recovered to reach 192 for three thanks to two useful partnerships. Saif and Saeed bin Nasir (43) added 75 for the second wicket while Hasan Raza (38) and Masroor put on 60 for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, Rehan Rafiq, who hit an unbeaten 162, and Faisal Elahi (96) extended their overnight ninth wicket partnership to 179 to help Bahawalpur declared at 484 for nine.
