ISLAMABAD: Anti-polio teams in the capital have completed 23pc of their total target despite facing resistance in some areas.

An anti-polio campaign is underway in Islamabad, which will continue till May 5.

According to a spokesperson for the capital administration, the teams faced resentment in some areas of Banigala. “At least five families refused to get their children vaccinated against polio, he added.

After getting information, the assistant commissioner visited the areas, met with the families and convinced them, the spokesperson said.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon said camps had been set up in various educational institutions and public places, and asked residents to inform the administration in case a polio team did not visit their homes.

Additional Commissioner East Usman Ashraf also visited different polio camps/points and spoke to the people and polio workers. He said the message of the campaign should be delivered to every home.

Meanwhile, on the instructions of the deputy commissioner, assistant commissioners visited their respective jurisdictions to review the ongoing campaign.

The AC Secretariat inspected the polio teams in Bari Imam area as well as the transit points while the AC City visited a school in G-6/4 to resolve an issue arising from the refusal of the school management to allow the team to administer anti-polio drops to students.

During the meeting, the school management sought a day’s time to hold further talks on the issue. Similarly, AC Nilore visited the area of Sultana Foundation and checked the anti-polio team.

He expressed his satisfaction with the finger and door marking process.
