LARKANA, March 12: Speakers at a ceremony to launch a book – Meetings with G. M. Syed – by Dr Adeeb Inqilabi stressed the need for rewriting history and recording censored events to preserve the facts.

Ibrahim Joyo presided over the meeting and Sobho Gianchandani was the chief guest.

The speakers said that extensive discussions were needed to correct inaccuracies and untruths that had crept into history.

Mr Joyo said that memories of G.M. Syed should be recorded without editing to preserve his thoughts and philosophy.

He said he had met G. M. Syed at the age of 12 in 1927 in Sann and since then he had been very close to him till his death.

Calling G. M. Syed a man of highest stature and political acumen, he referred to a 1946 meeting in Simla where the last viceroy had sought the views of Mr Syed on the partition. He said Mr Syed had advocated granting sovereignty to all states, including Sindh.

He also called for writing a political biography of the late Syed.

Sobho Gianchandani said that although he belonged to a different school of thought, Mr Syed had accepted him and asked him to write editorials for ‘Naeen Sindh’ newspaper.

He said G. M. Syed was the real propagator of Shah Latif’s message.

Dr Khadim Soomro, Hussain Bux Thebo, Nazeer Shaikh, Naz Sanaee and Dr Sagar Abro appreciated the author for recording his memories in the shape of “Meetings with G. M. Syed”.
