Ban on poultry products lifted

Published March 13, 2006

GILGIT, March 12: The Northern Areas administration has lifted a ban on entry of poultry products from adjoining districts. Sources said that Chief Secretary Imtiaz Kazi had directed local deputy commissioners to allow transportation of poultry products into the Northern Areas as no case of bird flue virus had been detected in any part of the country.

The ban on entry of poultry products into the Northern Areas had created shortage of beef and mutton due to increased demand and local price control committees had failed to check increase in the prices.
