KARACHI: “I had a successful meeting with your Prime Minister, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan. He is quite sympathetic to the Burmese Government and the results of our talks is encouraging”, said Thakin Nu at a Press Conference in Karachi on Thursday [April 14].

Confirming … that he had discussed … financial aid to Burma with the Prime Minister ... Thakin Nu disclosed that he had made certain suggestions to Mr Liaquat Ali Khan to be informally conveyed to the members of the British Cabinet. … Thakin Nu had a discussion for 90 minutes with the Prime Minister … before meeting the Pressmen at the Burmese Embassy. — Dawn staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by a staff correspondent in Karachi,] Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Mr Ghulam Mohammad, called upon the countries of the West to render all possible assistance to their “erstwhile victims” in the latter’s fight for raising the standard of living of their people. He was speaking at a dinner meeting of the Karachi Rotarians at the Beach Luxury Hotel... . He said the West could give that assistance in the form of technical hands and capital goods.
